Forever Young

Okay, I will admit to cheating...

No, nothing in the

I just spent a couple of hours doing a CAT Tracks...taking a musical shot at the new Superintendent of Cairo School District Number One. In it, I modified the words to Bob Dylan's "Everybody Must Get Stoned" song...using a newly coined "verb form" of his name in a derogatory manner. His last name is "Swopes" and he has taken to mistreating my former colleagues. THEY, in fact, coined the term "swoped" to indicate when they have had a close encounter of the worst kind. So...the new edition of the Bob Dylan song laments that "Every Will Get Swoped".

Which has absolutely nothing to do with this post. Don'tcha just luv it?!

Anyway, it was "late"...11 p.m. Prior to signing off, I decided to check out Rachel's blog. Been worrying about the "girl". (If you check out her blog you'll understand my reference and the quotes.) She called me on Tuesday night when she arrived in New York City after her 16 hours of flying from Nairobi, Kenya. Understandably, she sounded a little "rough around the edges". word. word.

Yeah...I could have/should have called...I do have her number in the United arm-and-a-leg long distance charges...none in fact. But...I kept thinking that I did not want to take a chance on disturbing her. So...

Anyway, when I checked her blog (after checking is several times in the past couple of days), FINALLY...a short description of her last few days. Bottom line...SHE'S ALIVE!

Which has absolutely nothing to do with this post! But, I'm getting there...

In fact, I AM there.

Just as I finished reading Rachel's blog, Bob Dylan was singing the final song on the album I had been playing as inspiration for my "swoped" article. Actually, I had played it several times, along with some Bob Marley.

Anyway, a couple of phrases caught my "sensitive nature"...

To my knowledge, I'd never really listened to this song in the past. But, tonight...

By the time I finish the post, it's going to be October 24th...the one-year anniversary of Julie's funeral service. As you have noticed, I've been doing a post a I am TUNED IN to "signs". So, I decided to look up the lyrics to the song...

Bob Dylan
"Forever Young"

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

I was touched...

And, then, is when my mind made one of those "connections". I thought..."When looking up Rod Stewart lyrics the other day...Forever Young."

So, Googled it and, sure enough, there it was...

Rod Stewart
"Forever Young"

May the good lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young

May good fortune be with you
May your guiding light be strong
Build a stairway to heaven
With a prince or a vagabond

And may you never love in vain
And in my heart you will remain
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
Forever young
Forever young

And when you finally fly away
Ill be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell

But whatever road you choose
I'm right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Forever young ,forever young
Forever young, forever young
For, forever young, forever young

As you can see, the lyrics are similar...but different.

Let the research begin...

Quickly stumbled across another coincidence...a Julie "connection". The band that Dylan used to record "Forever Young" was...The Band. An album by this group is one of the few (actually the only one) that I remember Julie "bringing to the marriage". The album had nothing by Dylan on it...definitely not "Forever Young", but Julie played that sucker over and over. Things that make you go "Hmmm..."

And, my research actually produced this little "factoid"...Dylan and The Band recorded TWO versions of "Forever Young".

So, I thought "Ah ha!...THAT must account for the different lyrics that I had found in the Rod Stewart version."

And, I would be wrong!

Looked it up and found that with respect to Rod Stewart..."Forever Young" was an unconscious revision of Bob Dylan's song of the same name; the artists reached an agreement about sharing royalties."

Hey, I did all the research. All you had to do was read!!!

Guess you deserve an explanation for this long, drawn out rendition of musical history...

I've talked about circles... (Hey, no "crop circles"...yet.)

This "circle" started a few days back with "Somewhere in Time" when Rod Stewart was introduced as providing "So Far Away"...which then led to Carole King and her original version of the song. Now a Dylan song catches my attention and who "covers" it but the one and the same, Rod Stewart. (Maybe it only proves that Rod has good taste in music.)

In addition to The Band, the other interesting tidbit (for me) was that Dylan and The Band recorded their version(s) in November 1973...Julie and Ronnie's special month and year. The clincher would have been if the songs had been recorded on November 30th...our wedding anniversary. As far as I could determine, the songs were recorded in the first half of November of that year. Hey, close enough for me!

Okay...that's it...NO SIGN here, but then the day's young!

This DOES take the pressure off though! I don't HAVE to receive a "sign" in order to do a post on this anniversary...a post has been filed!

My mention of "cheating"...

I'd already found a "loophole". I mentioned stumbling over the song at 11 p.m. after reading Rachel's blog. Well...Rachel is in New York was midnight in NYC...the 24th of October!

Talk about a "reach"...

Anyway, if I receive a really good sign later today, I may wipe out this whole entry...replace it with a worthy post.

In fact, I've already got a test set up with "my friend" from yesterday's post...something that would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Julie IS behind the "signs that I have been receiving. Since things have been happening as I turn into the cemetery or shortly after leaving, we have agreed that if a certain agreed upon music artist comes over the airwaves at that moment...PROOF!

It's a tough test...I have never, ever heard him (or anyone of his genre) on this particular radio station.

Do you believe in miracles?

Stay tuned...

EDITOR'S NOTE: Just did a count out of curiosity...this is the 100th entry. Sure hope I have something better to add to it...or to replace it. In my humble opinion, this was the lamest post yet. Too much "hook". Guess it's nerves!

Actually, truth be known...

I discovered about two-thirds into this post that I'd "messed up". I thought the "circle" that was completed by the Rod Stewart song was back to October 19th...the "beginning". Turned out that the 19th song was John Mellencamp; Rod didn't come along until the 21st. Took all the steam out of what was to be an actual "sign".

Oh, well...maybe later today!!!

Sorry 'bout that...
